Student testimonials: It's great to have this support behind me
We love to receive feedback on your journey with the Learning People at any stage of the process, so this week we were thrilled to hear back from IT student, Douglas McDermid.
Douglas enrolled onto one of our IT collections and is currently studying for his Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
What motivated you to start your IT online training?
“I had been an electrician for 40+ years and found myself unemployed. When it came to signing up with the Learning People, it was a matter of good timing because I was financially stable enough to spend the learning period in unemployment. I had time to gain an additional skill without any pressure from an employer.
“When my job as an electrician ended, I decided to see if my interest in computers could become a second career path, and began reading as much as I could. Although I found the subject very interesting, I quickly realised that this method of study would not get me a qualification.
“At about that time I received an email from the Learning People, which was perfect timing for my current circumstances, and made me realise I could learn another way with a bit more support.”
How was your experience with Learning People?
“Since enrolling with the Learning People the process has been made very easy by the team. The initial orientation I received from a member of StudentCare™ was really helpful and got me started on the right track; so far I’m happy to say it has been plain sailing.
“With regards to training support, I have used the chat option a few times now and the tutors have responded quickly and the issues have been resolved immediately.”
“My studies with the Learning People have been very positive; I don’t fit the role of a typical student, and have never found studying easy, but despite this the support and study methods of the course have been by far the most ideal format I have experienced in terms of how quickly and successfully I am progressing.
What are your goals for the future?
“I would find working as an IT network technician very interesting, so I aspire to train for such a role. Although I still have a long way to go before I finish my Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA, it is a great comfort to know that I have the tremendous support of the Learning People team behind me.”
